I believe if you look at magazines that contain beauty advertisements you will find that black women are well represented by models in regards to different skin tones and hair textures. Actually, I had a discussion in one of my public relations classes about the fact that many companies, not just those in the beauty industry, are choosing more black models who have naturally curly or kinky hair.
In regards to the black celebrity spokeswomen, I believe we can choose to look at the positive side of things. Although Queen Latifah may be lighter skinned, she is also a plus-size woman. The fact that she has her own cosmetic line sends a wonderful message to young girls and women everywhere that they can be comfortable with their bodies without having to be a size zero. I have seen Sanaa Lathan wear weave but I have also seen her wear hairstyles that seem to be her natural hair. The fact that she is representing an entire line of Pantene Pro-V’s products that aren’t specifically aimed toward black women is a major step by American standards.
We must remember our country’s past. Change takes time. If we aren’t satisfied with the variety of black women in beauty advertisements, thenwe have the luxury of appreciating our own beauty companies that cater specifically to women of color. We shouldn’t forget to support them as well.

This article is focusing on the trend of major beauty companies choosing black celebrities as their spokeswomen.

Marvin Gaye - Distant Lover (Live)
I’m in love with this right now!
The live versions of this tune are just unreal. The recording from Marvin Gaye Live! in particular, but to see the man move and agonize and emote over each note in this video just hits me in all the right ways.
I loved your description so much that I had to reblog it lol! Marvin definitely has a way of taking his listeners to another place. *wipes forehead*
This CNN article broke my heart but sadly, it validates our present culture. What happens to black people if we can’t sing about love?
